115,000 tons of material needed to backfill a mine. |

An operating landfill was subject to closing due to the potential subsidence of an abandoned
underground mine lying beneath it. The patented Flowcell™ low moisture foam transport
process was used to transport 115,000 tons of minus 3/8-inch crushed limestone waste
material into the mine through strategically placed boreholes.
The 115,000 tons of backfill material was transported and placed using less than 13% water.
The fill material traveled via the foam transport method into the otherwise inaccessible
mine up to distances of 500 feet from the injection boreholes. Essentially 100% of the
13-foot high mine rooms were filled utilizing the highly economical, pumpable foamed
transport process, with filling to continue as the landfill continues to expand.
